The report of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) which had looked into the audit reports of 228 state institutions will be presented to Parliament before the budget debate in November, COPE chairman and senior minister D.E.W. Gunasekara told Parliament yesterday.
Mr. Gunasekara said COPE started scrutinizing audit reports related to state institutions from August 4, 2010, and the work on 185 institutions had already been completed. He said the work on the remaining 43 institutions would be completed before the end of October.
Among these institutions are statutory boards, commissions, institutes, universities, authorities and state corporations.
“The Committees for 2006, 2007 and 2008 had completed examining only 26, 70 and 20 reports respectively. The report in respect of 2009 has not been presented. We shall incorporate that as well when we present the reports for 2010 and 2011,” he said.
