Transparency International Chair, Mr. François Valérian, visited Sri Lanka as part of his regional engagement with local chapters. During his visit, Mr. Valérian met with Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President, on the 29th August 2025 at the Presidential Secretariat.
As the civil society member of the Steering Committee guiding the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) 2025–2029, TISL facilitated this engagement to strengthen dialogue on advancing anti-corruption reforms. Representing TISL at this meeting were Deputy Executive Director Ms. Maheshi Herat and Advocacy and Research Officer Ms. Dhewni Dias, who contributed to the discussions by reflecting the organization’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Whilst acknowledging the range of initiatives that are currently being enforced under the government’s policy against corruption, including the development of the National Action Plan on Anti Corruption, Mr. Valérian highlighted that long term impact can only be achieved through consistent implementation and enforcement backed by strong political will and adequate resource allocation for the fight against corruption. He further highlighted the importance of active civil society participation and encouraged Sri Lanka’s re-entry into the Open Government Partnership (OGP) to co-create sustainable reforms and draw from global best practices.
