The Anuradhapura District Court ordered the sealing of the property of the Galenbindunuwewa Pradeshiya Sabha for the non- payment of Rs. 10 million owed by it to a businessman for the hiring of machinery and equipment from him for the construction of ponds in the Galebindunuwewa in 1999.
Anuradhapura District Judge and Additional Magistrate Lakmali Hewawasam ordered the court registrar A.A.V. Pathirane to take action in this regard. The pradeshiya sabha had earlier been ordered by Court to pay the due amount to the petitioner: but it had ignored the order. Therefore, an order to seal the property for 14 days had been made by Court. Another order had also been made to auction the property and pay the dues to the petitioner if the pradeshiya sabha failed to pay up within 14 days.
Court made the order after considering a petition filed by businessman Charles Anuruddha Wijesinghe citing the pradeshiya sabha as respondent.
The petitioner has stated in his petition that he gave his machinery on hire for the construction project executed by the Galenbindunuwewa Pradeshiya Sabha in 1999. He said that his claim for payment had been ignored by the pradeshiya sabha for the past several years.
