The 2011 Finance Commission Report states about 29,084 vacancies exist in the Provincial Councils.
The approved cadre of the Provincial Councils was 327,248 and the number presently stands at 298,164, according to the report.
This report was handed over to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa by the Commission recently. During the past three years the cadre in the Provincial Councils had increased considerably. The maximum number of 5884 vacancies existed in the North Western Province while the other vacancies were Western 4782, Central 655, Southern Province 2169, Northern Province 4116, North Central 4120, Uva Province 2246, Sabaragamuwa 3411, and the Eastern Province 1701.
The annual allocations to the Provincial Councils were made on the recommendations of the Finance Commission.
The Chief Ministers of the several Provincial Councils revealed to the press that there existed more vacancies than that which was shown in the report.
Vacancies existed in Administration, Educational Administration, Accountants services etc in the Provincial Councils. This situation has affected the productivity of the PCs. said the Chief Ministers. They have also informed the Government about this situation.
