Blood Bank issue
The alleged use of expired plasma kits for preserving blood at the National Blood Bank Centre has aroused much media interest in the past few weeks.

The main opposition party, the UNP has lodged a complaint at the Bribery Commission. A senior party Parliamentarian claimed that on a visit to the Blood Bank, he discovered 44 expired plasma kits.

Fernando regarding purchases in the Police department during his tenure of
office.

Documents with AG
Evidence could not be led by the prosecution in a case involving a former Provincial Chief Minster and a minister of the Uva province relating to the purchase of road construction equipment, due to the relevant file being removed by the Attorney General’s department.

VAT fraud
A senior official of the Criminal Investigation Department told the Bribery Commission that in the VAT fraud case, it cannot be accepted that VAT payments have been made without the approval of Inland Revenue Department officials.

The possibility of taking the Secretary to the Treasury, Dr P B Jayasundera for questioning by police following the Supreme Court judgement on the illegal release of land to John Keells was hinted in a weekly newspaper in its headline story.

Leave us out, says Police Commission
The National Police Commission (NPC) has declined to step in to settle a major dispute in the Bribery Commission over the transfer by the IGP of two police inspectors investigating undeclared assets of a prominent politician.

Another transfer?
Bribery Commission insiders say that moves are afoot to transfer the Police inspector in charge of investigations on allegations relating to assets of ministers.  Around 20 allegations have been made against prominent ministers, chief ministers and provincial ministers.

Illegal admission of students
The principal of Ananda College has been ordered by the Chief Magistrate to hand over the documents relating to the admission of 64 students to grade 1, to the Colombo Fraud Bureau. The petitioner – a father who claims he bought a house for 10 million rupees next to the College boundary three years ago to get his son admitted – alleges that the 64 students were admitted by accepting fraudulent documents leaving his son out.
