KANDY – Why cannot the ministers reduce their security including the convoys of land rovers and armed personnel so that public funds involved could be utilized for national development? asked Central provincial Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa at a public function in Yatinuwara.
Under the present context of the situation following the defeat of LTTE terrorism due mainly to the contribution of President Mahinda Rajapakse and sacrifices of the heroes, a portion of the resources utilized for the 30-year-old war is to be diverted for the country’s development, Governor Kobbekaduwa said. He was speaking at a meeting held after naming the village Amunupra as ‘Carbonic Fertilizer Village’.
He said that the ministers who are enjoying extensive security with fleets of vehicles and armed personnel for prestige and exhibition could reduce a portion of the security and save the funds for the country’s development process.
The time is conducive to a large extent for tree moment the factor is reduced that the ministers are able to manage with a limited personnel security, governor Kobbekaduwa, further said.
Parliamentarian and Advisor to the President, Basil Rajapakse visit the North but the ministers are still reluctant to do so, the governor noted.
The naming of the village was organised by the Sri Lanka Hadabima Authority.
