Thushanie joined TISL in 2013, as a legal officer cum Coordinator for both the Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre and Right to Information team in the Matara Office. Her main tasks include providing legal advice on corruption cases, supporting the design and implementation of advocacy and outreach activities based on client needs and evidence based research, conducting capacity building programmes, mobilizing citizens to utilize their Right to Information (RTI), assisting the general public in compiling and submitting RTI requests as well as assisting them with the appeal process and also to build regional networks that stand against corruption and support victims and witnesses of corruption.
Thushanie was called to the bar as an Attorney-at-Law in 2010 and has several years of experience practicing Civil Law. Before joining TISL, she worked in the Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka and the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka. Thushanie also has experience in the banking sector where she worked as a bank assistant at People’s Bank. She has attended a training on RTI in Delhi, India in 2018. She is also a guest lecturer in Banking and Finance in education institutes in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka.
She was awarded a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Colombo in 2009 and holds a Certificate of Banking from the Institute of Bankers Sri Lanka. She is a past pupil of Sujatha Vidyalaya, Matara.
Apart from her work, Thushanie loves reading and travelling.
