Mohammed Makeen
Program Officer Vavuniya

Makeen joined TISL in 2018 as Programme Officer for both the Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre (ALAC) and the Right to Information (RTI) team in the Vavuniya Office. His work involves coordinating and managing TISL’s ALAC and RTI work and conducting trainings on Corruption, Bribery and RTI for Community Based Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations and Government Officials.

Makeen is a professional Social Worker. Prior to joining TISL, he was a Programme Administrator and Team Leader at several organizations such as Child Fund Sri Lanka and the Danish Refugee Council. He has more than 15 years of experience in humanitarian work at both local and international NGOs. His work has covered diverse areas such as livelihood, gender economic empowerment, the protection and monitoring of internally displaced persons, child protection and quality control of programmes.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Peradeniya and a Master’s Degree in Finance Management from the Strategy Business College of Sri Lanka which is affiliated with the Asia e University of Malaysia. He also holds a Diploma in Human Rights from the Institute of Human Rights and holds a Professional Diploma in Social Work from the National Institute of Social Development (NISD)/School of Social Work, Sri Lanka.

Makeen is very passionate about social work and in his spare time, he volunteers for various social work projects at the community level.
