‘Karadiyawara Mangalaya’ cost Rs. 30mn

The government has spent as much as Rs. 30 million for the ‘Karadiyawara Mangalaya’ ceremony to mark the filling of the Hambantota port with sea water, and of this amount Rs. 18 million had been given to a company called Creative Helanka PVT LTD of popular artiste Jackson Anthony, Parliament was informed yesterday.

The activities of the function held in August last year had been done by this organization. The government placed this information before the House in response to a question raised by the UNP during question time. Mr. Anthony who is a popular actor and filmmaker is the Managing Director of this organization.  The Hambantota port which is also known as the Magampura Port was opened on 18 November 2010, with the first ceremonial berthing of the naval ship “Jetliner” to use the port facilities.
