Jawaahira joined TISL in 2018 as Field Co-ordination Officer of the Right to Information team. Her main task is organising and conducting Civic Mobilization Meetings, Follow up meetings and Town Hall Meetings in Jaffna, Trincomalee, Ampara, Colombo and Matara.
She has over fourteen years of experience in the humanitarian field working for organisations such as Community Trust Fund, Peace Provoking Woman Organisation and National Democratic Institute. She conducted a session on Human Rights at the South Asian Youth assembly organised by Youth Coordination Centre International held in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2002.
Jawaahira holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from the Open University of Sri Lanka, a Diploma in Project Management from Mecwin Resources (pvt.) ltd in Kandy, a Certificate course in International Relations from the University of Colombo and a certificate course in Peace building and Conflict transformation from the Asian Muslim Action Network in Thailand.
In her spare time, Jawaahira loves to write poetry, read and gardening. She is passionate about working with charities that empower women and children, raising awareness on the Right to Information, anti-corruption, bribery, Integrity and Women’s Rights.
