German Ambassador Jens Ploetner visited today (03.03.) the Sri Lankan chapter of the global civil society organisation – TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL and met with its director, J.C. Weliamuna and senior staff members.
Ambassador Ploetner lauded Transparency International’s world-wide action against corruption and its commitment in advocating good governance: “I know of no country which is immune to the evil of corruption. In my own country as well, TI has played an important role in raising awareness and highlighting cases of abuse of state funds.
The work of TI certainly is unpleasant and embarrassing for those who have given into the temptation of corruption. That is why TI deserves all possible support and encouragement by the highest echelons of the state.” Ploetner was quoted as saying while underlining the dedicated work done by the Sri Lankan chapter of TI under the direction of J.C. Weliamuna. Ploetner said: “For all responsible governments fighting against corruption, Transparency International is an ally, not a foe.”
