A resident of Piliyandala yesterday petitioned the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against UPFA Candidate for the Colombo Municipal polls Mohamed Mahroof.
The petitioner Leeson Perera requested the CIABOC to inquire as to how Mahroof obtained the Rs. 01 billion he claimed he had contributed towards UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe’s two election campaigns.
The former UNP stalwart from Colombo Central who crossed over to the SLFP after being denied of nomination as UNP’s candidate for Colombo Mayor, alleged that he handed over Rs. one billion in two installments at his residence in Kynsey Road, Colombo to one of Wickremesinghe’s confidants.
Maharoof was removed from the UNP’s Working Committee, but has said that he has the evidence to prove his allegations which he will reveal on October 5, the final day of campaigning.
