TISL Urge the Public to Send Their Feedback on RTI Bill

TISL has reliably informed that government has taken a decision to table the Right to Information draft bill in Cabinet next week and obtain its approval week after before tabling in Parliament.

Transparency International as a movement is a wealth of knowledge and expertise on the right to information and the mechanism that entails. We were closely involved in the development of the draft bill and 03 of our members represented the drafting committee.

We do poses the latest draft but found out there is a lot of room for improvement. Some of the experts who went through the bill have complained the bill was watered down when the bill went through the office of the legal draftsmen department. It was observed that some of the progressive clauses have been removed from the final draft.

TISL now will thrive to push the government to re draft the bill. We expect to study the bill with an expert group to find the gaps and make necessary recommendation and share the recommendations with the relevant authorities. We do appeal the public to read the attached draft bill and send your comments within 07 days to tisl@tisrilanka.org. We are planning to send our feedback to the government soon.
