“Though security threats, anti-NGO sentiments and media attacks loomed large over for the past several months, we managed to overcome these obstacles and continue our efforts to promote accountability, good governance and integrity in the country,” said TISL Executive Director J.C.Weliamuna addressing the TISL Members’ Day held at Global Towers  on 30th June 2010.

The Members’ Day immediately followed the Annual General Meeting which was presided over by Chairman M.D.A.Harold.

At the AGM,  after the adoption of the Directors’ Report and the Audited Accounts for the financial year ended 31st December 2009,  five directors – Anushya Coomaraswamy, S.K.Liyanage, V.K.Nanayakkara, Nelum Gamage and Chandra Jayaratne – were unanimously re-elected. Chairman M.D.A. Harold and Tassie Seneviratne are the other Board members.

Appealing to the members to become active partners of the organization, Mr.Weliamuna requested them to encourage their friends to become volunteers and gain sufficient knowledge of Transparency International Sri Lanka and the TI movement and become effective ambassadors in the community to promote TI movement.

He wanted the members to follow TISL activities and contribute towards the achievement of the goals of the organization. He appealed them to identify and nominate suitable persons for the National Integrity Award. “We do have people in this country who are worthy of this prestigious award. Some of the past winners are now members of TISL.”

It was pointed out at the meeting that all the donors had accepted proposals put forward by TISL and released funds which had almost doubled compared to the previous year, which was a reflection on the quality of work done by TISL.

Presentations were made by Senior Consultant Anushika Amarasinghe and Deputy Executive Director Rukshana Nanayakkara on current TISL activities.

Renowned financial expert Ranjith Fernando thanked TISL on behalf of the members on the work done and stressed the need for members to support TISL in their efforts to promote good governance.
