Sri Lanka bribery officials arrest local government politician while soliciting bribe

Sri Lanka Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission officials arrested a head of a local government council yesterday on charges of soliciting bribes.

The officials nabbed S. B. Rajanayake, the Chairman of the Pathahewaheta Pradeshiya Sabha in Kandy district inside the office of the local council while he was accepting a bribe.

The officials made the arrest on information received regarding the politician.

The chairman was taken for interrogation and he was to be produced in court today.

Local media reports said the Chairman was allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 for the allocation of a premise at Talatuoya market to a fish vendor.
