Legal Facilitator Training

Shelter for Integrity (TISL’s Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre) conducted a four-day training programme on state land laws and redress mechanisms against corruption and malpractices in land grants and management, for a batch of 18 law students recently. The programme was conducted as a joint activity with Oxfam’s ‘Small-scale Farmers Land Rights Project’ at Global Tower Hotel, Colombo 04.

The training programme was inaugurated by TISL Executive Drector, S.Ranugge who traced the progress of the country’s administrative system.

A number of senior public officials in the land sector including – Deputy Land Commissioner – Asantha Gunasekara, Land Reform Commission Chairman – Nimal Punchihewa-AAL Assistant Land Commissioner (legal) – D.R.Senaratne – and senior practicing lawyers conducted lectures and training sessions. The trainees were given an in-depth training on the administrative system of Sri Lanka, laws and institutions combating against corruption and malpractices, state land ownership and grant procedures, Land Development Ordinance and Land Reform Commission and related laws. In addition, they were trained on legal consultation supported by mock interviews to help them develop consultation skills.
