The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) urged the Education Ministry to take steps to stop schools from collecting money from students to print second term test papers.
According to CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin collecting money from students to print papers is a violation of the 2010/16 circular issued by the Education Ministry.
“The circular states that the responsibility of term tests should be borne by each school and that the expenses of the process should be covered through the funds of the school development board or through the money collected as school facility fees,” Mr. Stalin said. He asserted that the collection of money is now being carried out countrywide where each student is charged a sum of Rs. 80-120 to print a set of papers.
Mr. Stalin also said that the Education Ministry still has not taken steps to pay the expenses of the term test papers printed for the third term test in 2009.
