Sri Lanka Bribery Commission seeks legal advice for minister’s complaint against local council Chairman

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption in Sri Lanka has called for a legal report on the complaint handed by Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP) Kelaniya organizer and Minister Mervyn Silva against the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Prasanna Ranaweera to the Commission.

Chairman of the Commission, retired Supreme Court Judge Jagath Balapatabendi has said a legal report has been called on the complaint to decide whether to proceed with the inquiry.

He has noted that the final decision would be made on the matter after the Commission’s legal division hands over the report.

The Commission is to inquire whether the complaint could be investigated under the clauses in the Bribery Commission Act.
