Social Media Training for Youth in Matara

TISL’s Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre (ALAC)  Matara branch office conducted a two-day training programme for University Students of Ruhuna in order to empower them on Social Media Activism especially in their fight against corruption .The workshop was held at “Solis Hotel –Matara on 16th & 17 October 2105 and attended by 25 participants.

The workshop covered a brief introduction to corruption and its wider implication on society especially the youth Localy. International examples were also shown in order to brief them on how Social Media and New Media have played role to influence a Country. The training covered various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google Plus, Instagram, Flicker and Word Press. Participants were trained on various aspects such as story writing, uploading and sharing content on social media, promoting social media content, networking through social media, ethical frameworks and other related technical aspects such as privacy and security.

The Resource persons for the workshop were, Sampath Samarakoone, Editor, Vikalpa Voices, Jagath Liyanarachi AAL, Manager ALAC, Thushani Kandilpana-AAL, Coordinator-ALAC Matara and Haritha Dahanayake IT/Web Manager TISL.
